The expansion of MARTA and the light rail system via a sales tax is the great destroyer of wealth. Any system which cannot produce a benefit that is greater than its cost is not an asset, but a liability.
If a public transportation system is to be funded, then let it be funded by fare, not by a sales tax. Of course, it cannot be funded by fare because the cost of doing so would cause the fare price to increase such that the consumer would be confronted with a fare that is greater than the benefit of the service provided. Therefore, since the service is not self-sustaining (i.e. the costs are greater than the benefit), the cost must be subsidized by (looted from) parts of the economy that are capable of producing wealth.
The ability for a system to survive that destroys more wealth than it creates is in direct conflict with free market principles and market-driven demand. Such a system could not survive in a free market and therefore can only be achieved in the economic petri dish of a command (government-driven) economy.
Any system that consumes more wealth than it creates is economically evil and should be stopped.

This should be a jolly. Over the next few weeks, the notoriously anti-tax, anti-transit citizens of Cobb County, just NW of Atlanta, will have chances to walk up to a public microphone and spew forth their hatred of the proposed regional tax for transportation/transit funding.
My prediction: some of the most horrifying, vitriolic rants your likely to hear this side of you crazy old, racist Uncle Charlie. Expect to hear plenty of anti-smart growth conspiracy theories bounced around (“government control of housing…packed in together like animals headed to slaughter…personal freedoms…taking our cars away…”).
Anyone brave enough to listen in, join in or (gulp) speak out in favor of the tax can follow the above link for times and places.
This is just going to be one person after another, taking a giant dump on the city, spewing forth nonsense rooted in a stagnant ’50s mentality that WILL NOT GO AWAY SOON ENOUGH. And then they’ll go to sleep in their hastily-fabricated Beazer home, wake up the next day and spend eighty minutes stuck on I-75 trying to get to their job in Midtown or wherever. SHITTING WHERE THEY EAT, ALL OF THEM.
